Isn't the devil the prince of the principalities of the air? This is the realm of demons alluded to by Aleister Crowley in his poem on The Pentagram. What is a demon? To me, it's a shadow or illusion of the psyche. The mind is sometimes described as a battleground, the struggle over your soul, with the id pulling in one direction (chaos, void, abyss, disorder, entropy, temptation) and the superego pulling in another direction (the loftiness of forms and order). The ego is the mediator, choosing the most compelling spark of impulse. A "shadow" is a misunderstood phenomenon in the psyche which is why people appear to react erratic under its influence. Shadow work is about reorientation and alignment with the cosmic principle. It's about being in congruence with the order of Natural Law rather than the delusions of the mind which continually fragment the psyche until it's completely dysfunctional. "Integrating the shadow," as it's called, is about bringing your fragmented components back under alignment so you're a unified whole, all parts working in perfect harmony synchronistically
