This is the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) from the Mass Palestrina wrote in honor of Pope Marcellus. This Mass was written after the Council of Trent (which addressed the Counter Reformation) of the Church. At the time, there was talk about polyphonic music taking away from the text the lyrics were singing. Pope Marcellus and the bishops discussed that music can be both beautiful and honor God.

This mass was written as a "thank you" to the pope for his decision. In particular this part of the mass was probably one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Listen to it and let to word of God touch your soul.
