Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus has offered his "deepest condolences" to the families of three Israeli hostages mistakenly killed by the Israel Defence Forces in Gaza.
Speaking to Sky News, the IDF spokesperson said the incident will be investigated "thoroughly" and new guidelines have been issued to "minimise the risks of this happening again".
He added that members of Hamas often dress like civilians in order to escape or hide among them, which can cause confusion on the ground.
