Zhang Shuhua, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and director of the Institute of Political Science of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) warned against the way some film and TV shows turn men into “pseudo girls,” making them lose their masculinity. His remarks were featured in a report by “China News Service” that was published on March 10, 2021. Shuhua said that some Chinese film and television works and stars have turned Chinese men into “pseudo girls” and a phenomenon of venerating the images of “little fresh meat” (effeminate idols) has emerged, which has caused the loss of the masculine spirit that men should have.
