Bill Gates' relationship with Epstein may have triggered divorce

Melinda Gates was reportedly concerned about Bill Gatesâ€™ relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein years before the pair announced they were separating.

The two announced their decision to end their marriage last week in a joint statement after 27 years but offered no public reason for the separation.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Ms Gates consulted lawyers at multiple firms about divorce since at least 2019.

Ms Gates and her advisers conducted a â€œnumber of callsâ€ in October 2019, the journal said, around the time the New York Times revealed Mr Gates had met with Epstein on â€œnumerous occasionsâ€.

Ms Gates had concerns about her husbandâ€™s relationship with Epstein as far back as 2013, according to the journal.
