Torrential rain has made conditions even more miserable for millions of people who've been displaced by the airstrikes and ground offensive in Gaza.

This, as fierce fighting continues throughout the enclave. Nine Israeli soldiers were killed in an ambush by Hamas on the outskirts of Gaza City - their worst single combat loss of the war.
