In response to recent hate messages projected on City buildings, City leaders announced legislation that would make it illegal to to use a laser, projector, or any other kind of equipment to project an image onto the side of a building, vehicle or any other property without the owner’s permission. If passed, the bills would include a $2,000 fine and up to six months in jail.

"I have said it before and will say it again: There is absolutely no room for hate in our town," said Mayor Lenny Curry during a news conference Thursday morning. "Our city is made stronger through its diversity, and we stand before you as a united front. We will not allow hate to take root in our community and we stand alongside our Jewish residents as One City, One Jacksonville."

The legislation is set to be voted on during next Tuesday night’s board meeting.
