I’ve made a few videos talking about the history and culture of yūjyo, the prostitutes in Japan.
And in the “omake†talk of the video I made about oiran, I briefly introduced the male prostitutes, "kagema."
You might have heard about yūjyo or oiran through anime and manga, but I believe most people do not know about the male prostitutes.
I have to be honest, before I started this YouTube channel, I didn’t know about them myself.
But they actually have their unique history and culture too which is worth studying about.
So today, I will explain about the three main differences between yūjyo and kagema, the female and male prostitutes.
I have received many questions about “tayū†as well, so I’d love to talk about who they were, and how they were different from oiran at the end of the video.
