On Thursday, November 23, 2023, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea declared that it was no longer bound by the North-South military agreement of September 19, 2018. In response to Pyongyang's launch of a military reconnaissance satellite on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, South Korea suspended part of the inter-Korean military agreement on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, and announced that it would immediately step up surveillance along the heavily fortified border with the North.
