On September 11, 2001, members of al-Qaeda hijacked four American commercial airliners to use as weapons in terrorist attacks. Two destroyed the twin towers of New York City's World Trade Center. One hit the Pentagon in Washington, DC. The final plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, brought down by its passengers in a counterattack.

This video begins at 10:06 AM EDT / 7:06 AM PDT, when I began recording Southern California TV stations as well as national networks such as CNN and C-SPAN. Events that occurred before the recording (Eastern Daylight Time):

8:46 AM -- American Airlines Flight 11 strikes the WTC's north tower.

9:03 AM -- United Airlines Flight 175 strikes the WTC's south tower.

9:37 AM -- American Airlines Flight 77 strikes the Pentagon.

9:59 AM -- The WTC south tower collapses.

10:03 AM -- United Airlines Flight 93 crashes in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
