Israel has carried out airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, targeting the Islamic Jihad – a group regarded as a terrorist organisation by the EU and the US.

Palestinian health authorities say 12 people were killed in the airstrikes, with children among the casualties. An apartment building and a house were reportedly hit. Islamic Jihad says three of its senior commanders died in the airstrikes.
