Waffen-SS Mountain Divisions and Brigades - origins, development and deployment (1942-1945)

The Waffen-SS began developing dedicated mountain units from 1942 onwards, especially on the Balkans where they were employed in anti-partisan operations. Most planned divisions never made it through the formation phase and were prematurely thrown into battle. In 1945 there were little left of the SS mountain armycorps, when they surrendered.
