The American Civil Religion, long in development, began with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth. After this point whether via schoolbooks, newsprint, plays etc, the concept of America was this. Equal Opportunity for all, no religious discrimination, peace through strength ie Bible and Sword and a worship of the Founding Fathers. This was underpinned by White America being generally Christian. In 1933 this religion was replaced by FDR with an early form of Diversity and Inclusion and finally by LBJ with Antiwhitism.
