(4 Jun 2019) Russian President Vladimir Putin inaugurated a monument at Moscow's Jewish Museum and Tolerance Centre on Tuesday, dedicated to the heroes of uprisings in Jewish ghettos and Nazi concentration camps during World War II.
The black and white marble monument depicts hands pulling open a door's black shutters.
"The most important thing is that we preserve the memory of this in our hearts, in our souls and then there will never be such tragedies that we speak of today," during the inauguration ceremony.
Its foundation stone was laid by Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 29th January 2018 in honour of International Holocaust Victims Remembrance Day.
Russia's Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities Alexander Boroda and Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, chair of the museum's board of trustees, also attended the inauguration.
