Jeremy Issacharoff speaks to Nicole on DW News about the recent escalation of tensions between Israel and Hamas.

According to Issacharoff, high level discussions to calm the situation were ongoing between Israeli officials, the United States and Germany's foreign minister, Heiko Maas, who was also speaking to Qatar and Egypt.

The ambassador said he was concerned about a flare up in sectarian violence but believes the vast majority of Jews and Arabs in Israel "will want to reassert their right to live in peace and in coexistence."
