White Alabama Councilman Uses N-word in Meeting, Rejects Calls to Resign

Meanwhile, in Alabama...

A white Tarrant City councilman has rejected calls to resign after he used the N-word at a council meeting – and might even run for mayor.

Tarrant City Councilor Tommy Bryant used the racial slur during a council meeting on Monday evening.

Video from the meeting shows Bryant, 76, standing up and stating: ‘Do we have a house n****r in here?’. He was purportedly referring to black female council member Veronica Freeman.

However, on Wednesday, the veteran councilman told local news outlets he would not say sorry, and that his words had been taken out of context.
Bryant claimed he was only repeating what he had heard the city’s black mayor, Wayman Newton, say about Freeman.

‘He said it in a derogatory manner. I said it so people would know what the mayor said,’ Bryant later told WVTM.

However, the mayor says he has never uttered the N-word.

The Alabama Democratic Party has called Bryant ‘a racist unfit to serve’ and demanded he resign.
