Apple unveiled its new AI technology on Monday, dubbed Apple Intelligence, which will be integrated across its suite of apps as it aims to gain an edge over Microsoft in the bid to be the face of generative AI for consumers.

The technology will power new tools that will generate text and images and will have the ability to retrieve and analyze information across a range of apps, the company says. Apple is also leaning on Open AI to help make its virtual assistant Siri smarter.

The new tools will come as part of free software updates later this year.
