Israel killed five alleged Palestinian gunmen in a raid in the West Bank.
After a day-long hunt for the suspects in a shooting close to Jericho, the operation became known as the "Jericho Raid."
Hamas confirmed its fighters were among the dead.
"The Gaza-based group mourns the loss of its military wing in an armed clash with the Zionist occupation," â€“ said in a statement.
"The Israeli raid comes after a spike in Israeli-Palestinian violence and the siege of Jericho since the shooting attack last month," Jericho officials confirmed.
PM Netanyahu stated that two suspected assailants and three others were killed by Israeli Shin Bet agents and soldiers.
The Israeli army is holding the bodies of the five terrorists killed, including two who attempted to carry out the attack.
The Israeli forces were said to have suffered no losses.
An AFP photographer saw bullet holes and blood inside a wooden hut in the Aqabat Jabr refugee camp.
Palestinians set tyres ablaze to block Jericho road, leading to a general strike and closure of shops and schools.
The Palestinian PM Shtayyeh called the raid a "major crime" and "violation of international law".
