ARMED STANDOFF Outside United Nations - Extended Video

December 02, 2021 Manhattan, New York – Police responded to a call around 10:40am, of a man in a red shirt at a bus stop outside of the United Nations building, armed with a shotgun and holding a bag.
Police found a man outside of the U.N. building on 42nd Street and First Avenue, man had a shot gun under his chin and a bag.
According to police, the armed male pointed the weapon at himself and was allegedly threatening suicide. The suspect could be seen pacing back and fourth as officers tried to speak with him. One of the ESU officers began speaking with the man and held conversation through the entire incident. Police say it did not appear terror related, and seemed male wanted to deliver papers to the United Nations.
As a precautionary measure, NYPD Officers with bomb sniffing dogs were also seen sweeping the area for several blocks around the United Nations plaza. Bomb Squad and Bearcat Emergency Service Units were also requested to the scene.
The Detective bureau reported that the suspect does not have a criminal record or history. He is originally from Florida. They determined he walked from hotel on 44th street where he checked in yesterday. He had a pickup truck parked outside the Millenium hotel, where he checked in yesterday. Bomb squad has swept the hotel and the truck, clearing the scene, according to detectives.
According to police, at one point during the standoff, the man who appeared to be suffering from a mental health episode was seen kneeling down and going into a bag to retrieve multiple notebooks. He was. seen bringing the notepads and books, one by one, to the United Nations entrance.
As the male subject in red delivered several notebooks to the U.N. himself, once he retreated and sat down, heavily armored officers moved in to retrieve them. After examination of the package, they then proceeded to deliver it to the United Nations.
Police state that the notes that the man passed along during the standoff contained medical papers and other documents, there were no personal notes inside. They said it was not connected to terror. The gun that man was holding was loaded. Man wanted the UN to receive the documents. He told police if they did that, he would put the gun down, which he did.
Police are looking into names and notations in the documents to investigate further, charges are still pending. Following a three hour standoff outside of the United Nations building with police, the male individual surrendered to authorities on scene, he was placed in the hospital for observation.
Traffic was blocked by NYPD at northbound FDR Drive and 42nd Street, vehicles along the FDR Drive were affected by the closure.
