How to Skin a Rattlesnake

I spent several weeks this past winter preparing this roadkill Canebrake Rattlesnake skin. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. After cutting through the ventral surface with a pair of scissors and pulling the skin off, I mounted the snake skin on a board and pinned it with thumbtacks. After it had dried, I removed the epidermal scales and peeled the skin off of the board. Next, I applied several coats of glycerin which brought out the color of the rattlesnake and restored its flexibility. Then I mounted it on a fresh board. It made for a very nice skin.
