Is anti-Jewish always anti-Semitism? The Jews were kicked out of England as from 1290, and justifiably so. Chaucer was brought up in an England that was harbouring Jews in the Domus Conversorum. The Jew of Malta was literally banned and replaced with Shakespeares watered down version, of the illegal Jew of Venice.
