The eldest of five children, Salomon Buch was born in 1923 in Paris, France. His parents Ephraim and Doba immigrated to France from Warsaw, Poland in the 1920s. Salomon and his sisters were all French citizens but their parents were not. On May 14, 1941, Ephraim was summoned to the local police station. In this excerpt, Salomon recalls this day and his father’s imprisonment in an camp. Source: Montreal Holocaust Museum, 1997.

Aîné d’une famille de cinq enfants, Salomon Buch est né en 1923 à Paris, France. Ses parents Ephraim et Doba ont quitté Varsovie, Pologne pour immigrer en France dans les années 1920. Salomon et ses sœurs, nés en France, avaient la citoyenneté française, mais pas leurs parents. Le 14 mai 1941, Ephraim est convoqué au poste de police local.
