Ferris Bueller: A Marxist Analysis

Published on Sep 10, 2023
In this video essay, I apply aspects of Marxist theory to Ferris Bueller's Day Off, illuminating the ways in which the movie reflects 1980s American economic theory. By setting the movie against its contextual real-world backdrop of Reagan's "trickle-down" theory of economics, deeper connotations of the characters' actions on their "day off" become clear.
