11.4.23 | By Usman | WASHINGTON, DC - Tens of thousands of protesters attended a large and historic pro-Palestine rally starting from Freedom Plaza in the center of the nation's capital this weekend. Protesters, brought in from several parts of the country, are demanding that the federal government push for a ceasefire in the now four-week conflict between Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Israel, which has claimed thousands of civilian lives in Gaza. Protesters also want to see a halt in military and financial aid to Israel. The protesters then marched on Pennsylvania Avenue and 14th Street towards the White House, where many chanted slogans against President Biden. Some reports suggest that protesters attempted to scale the perimeter fence, while others painted red graffiti or placed it on the entrance, or threw signs onto the White House lawn. According to organizers, there were no reports of arrests by DC Police in relation to the protesters, despite the large turnout. Organizers at the end of the rally urged the attendees to return home.
