Tourists rush to Kazakhstan’s pink lake in belief that its salt helps to fight COVID

Lake Kobeytuz, located in the Akmola region of Kazakhstan, turned pink around two years ago thanks to the alga Dunaliella. The place, located near the capital of the country, became especially popular with local tourists this summer when rumors spread that salt from the lake helps to fight coronavirus. Needless to say, there is no evidence to support the claims.
