It's “Elementary, my dear Watson”, Basil Rathbone is to Sherlock Holmes as Sean Connery is to James Bond. The iconic fictional detective, created by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is listed in Guinness World Records as the Most Portrayed Movie Character, with more than 70 actors playing the part in over 200 films. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce (as Watson) starred in fourteen U.S. films from 1939 to 1946.
