Late last week, the Supreme Court blocked an attempt to force Yeshiva University to recognize a same sex pride organization. A group of students formed the YU Pride Alliance in 2020. In response, the university introduced several on-campus changes but did not officially recognize the group. The students filed a lawsuit, and over the summer a judge in New York ruled in their favor. In blocking that ruling, the Supreme Court said it will further address this case in the coming weeks. Managing Director of the Coalition for Jewish Values, Rabbi Yaakov Menken, joins to tell us about the court battles, why the judge in New York ruled in favor of the pride alliance and what the Supreme Court said in siding with the university. In New York, officials are set to strengthen their oversight of private and religious schools. This comes after complaints that children who graduate from Orthodox Jewish schools lack some academic skills. Rabbi Yaakov shares more about that. He discusses what the response has been in the Jewish community as one protestor held a sign saying "We will sit in jail rather than change our children's education." The rabbi explains what impact these cases could have on Catholic and Christian schools.
